For over four decades, the South Canterbury Mountain Bike Club has been the heartbeat of the mountain biking community in Timaru and South Canterbury.
From constructing trails in the iconic Centennial Park and Raincliff Forest to fostering camaraderie through exciting races and events — we are more than just a club; we are a community of enthusiasts united by our passion for mountain biking. Building Maintaining Trails
With relentless passion, our club has spent over 40 years constructing and upkeeping mountain bike trails across our region. Our primary focus has been Timaru’s renowned Centennial Park, fondly known as the Scenic Reserve. The entire multi-user trail network in Centennial Park, except for the main gravelled walking track, has been meticulously crafted by our club members or with the generous support of club funds. This inclusive trail system is enjoyed by the entire community, including mountain bikers, runners, and walkers alike.

Beyond Centennial Park, our dedication extends to Raincliff Forest, where we have established and maintain an additional trail network.
We work collaboratively with other local organistations to champion the cause of mountain biking within the wider community.
RACES AND EVENTS
At South Canterbury Mountain Bike Club, we embrace the spirit of competition and camaraderie. We take pride in hosting exhilarating races at Centennial Park, inviting participants of all skill levels and ages to showcase their abilities. These events not only fuel the excitement of mountain biking but also foster a strong sense of community among riders.
MONDAY EVENING SOCIAL RIDES
Join us every Monday evening during the summer months for a laid-back and social club ride. We meet at the main entrance of Centennial Park at 6.30pm sharp, conveniently located on Otipua Road/Church Street. It’s a great opportunity to connect with fellow riders and enjoy a casual ride together.
MONTHLY CLUB RIDE
Mark your calendars for the second Sunday of each month! On this day, we organise a bigger club ride where we venture beyond our usual trails and explore dedicated trail riding areas or the breathtaking South Island backcountry. It’s a chance to experience new trails and immerse yourself in the beauty of our surroundings.
CHOCOLATE FISH RACES
Get ready for some friendly competition on the fourth Sunday of every month. Our highly popular Chocolate Fish races offer both adults and youth the opportunity to showcase their skills. We also have a separate race exclusively for kids. These races take place in various locations, including Centennial Park, Ashburton, Geraldine, Waimate, and Oamaru.
Kids Race (ages 2-12)
Two different courses for different levels/ages.
Kids ride as many laps as they want around the track in 30 minutes.

Time: Sign up is from 11.15am, and the race starts at 12.00pm (times may change and events are weather dependent).
Venue: Various locations
Entry Fee: $2 entry fee and every child gets a chocolate fish at the end.
Adults/Youth
This is a fun social race that’s a great way to get out and improve your fitness or just a great excuse to get out for a ride. While the top guns can still hammer it out amongst themselves for the win, you don’t have to be a seasoned racer to come along and have fun, suitable for beginners to world champions.
Multi-lap race going for 1 hour, complete as many laps of the course as you can in this time

Entry Fee: $2 (club members), $5 (non-members)
SUMMER SERIES CHOCOLATE FISH RACES
Be part of our thrilling 5 race summer series, with the winner earning the prestigious Summer Series Trophy. Points are awarded for the finishing position in each of the five races. Whoever has the most points at the end of the series takes home the trophy!
NOTE: YOU MUST BE A PAID UP MEMBER OF THE CLUB AT THE START OF THE SERIES TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR POINTS AND THE TROPHY.
